What was the French Revolution?
The French Revolution was one of the bloodiest times in European history. The people of France decided that they had enough of King Louis the 16th and his men living lavishly at their expense, and they decided that it was time that the citizens ruled the country. The Revolution lasted 10 years (1789-1799) and during that time period France went from a monarchy ruled by King Louis XVI to a republic ruled by the citizens, and afterwards to a terrible dictatorship that was run by a ruthless man named Napoleon. The citizens in the lower classes were fed up with always starving and living in terrible conditions while the king and his noblemen were living in splendor and just throwing their money away. Although the revolution didn't quite achieve all of it's goals and at times it became a viscous bloodbath, it played an important role in shaping nations by showing the world the power in the will of people.
